Our Crew At The Zoo

I took Boston to the aquarium when he was a few months old and he slept the whole way through. I had a blast though. So ever since, I couldn't wait for him to become a little more alert and aware so we could take him to the zoo to see how he would react.

So on his actual birthday we packed up the car, picked up the grandparents, and drove to the zoo to celebrate with just the family. The weather was absolutely perfect which was such a blessing because it has been a gloomy mess pretty much this whole month.

When we walked into the park we were stopped by a group of girls who were doing face painting as a part of their community service for a pageant. We were a little hesitant since we had no clue how B would react to it all. But surprisingly he sat almost completely still and stared at her while she painted his face. It was the sweetest thing and we all swear he has a thing for cute brunettes. ;P
He loves playing the drums on dad's head.
I could have eaten him up with those sweet little whiskers and nose.
That look… Oh. My. Goodness.
And is there anything hotter than seeing your husband as a father? Nope. Nope. Nope.
We had such a good time until a mini meltdown towards the end. But we had seen almost everything so we went back to the car and headed home.
He passed out shortly after and my phone may or may not be filled with photos of him sleeping in his face paint. :D

Happy Birthday, Sweet Boston

Boston, what a year! You have made this by far the best year of my life and somehow each day just gets better and better. I think I swear every single day that there is absolutely no way you could get any cuter, but you always manage to top it. We love your little personality and how you have never met a stranger. You are such a sweet, happy boy and my heart swells every time you give me your bright eyed, gap-toothed smile. You have such a goofy sense of humor and love to wrinkle up your nose and give us a grin when we tell you "No." Which then turns into a game because that ornery smirk cracks us up every time. You are completely obsessed with lights and getting into anything you shouldn't be getting into. Your favorite person to play with is "Dada" but when you are upset you always cry for "Mama" and I love that you need me for comfort. Silly boy, you make this mama thing so easy and I can't wait to see what this next year brings. I would say there is no way it could get any better, but I know you will prove me wrong again. I love you so much, my little Boston Baked Bean. You are truly the best thing to ever happen to me.

Tribal Favorites

I am so pumped!! This weekend is my sweet little man's 1st birthday party and I think I have been planning this since he was only a few months old. I am totally that person who throws the big party that the kid won't remember. And honestly, I don't feel bad about it. Any parent knows that surviving the first year deserves a little celebration (maybe even with a few cold ones) so we will be going all out. Yes I am that mom.

I think I had decided before B was born that I wanted to do a "Cowboys and Indians" themed party. Tribal is so in right now and I absolutely love anything that theme. I have been knee deep in birthday party planning (which also means outfit shopping for me. :P) so here are some fun things I came across that I just love!!

Happy Hump Day!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We couldn't have asked for more perfect weather this weekend. We had been feeling a little stir crazy since it has been so rainy and gloomy this week and we couldn't wait to get outside and soak up some Vitamin D.
We spent the day Saturday checking out lots (yes again). It is starting to become a weekend ritual. But we took a break to celebrate one of our nieces birthdays. And Boston decided to show the family his new trick, taking steps!! We don't have a full on walker but he is getting there. He started this Wednesday while I was at work and I was so bummed that I missed his first ones. I guess one of the downsides of not staying home is that you take the chance of missing some of the firsts. Luckily he showed me his new skill as soon as I got home.
Sunday we spent the day at the lake. We bought a boat last year but Boston was too small for us to take him out on it so he got his first little boat ride yesterday. It was too cold to get in the water but perfect for lounging around and relaxing.
He did so great minus refusing to take a nap which left him a cranky mess after a few hours. So we untied from some of our friends and headed back to the marina. As luck would have it, B finally passed out on our ride in. Of course. ;D
As I said goodbye to the weekend, I am also saying goodbye to my last full weekend with a "baby". Next weekend we will celebrate Boston's 1st birthday and just like that we will have a toddler. It's all a little bittersweet.

New Home Inspiration: Master Bedroom

If you follow me on Pinterest, it is no secret that I am a tad bit obsessed over decorating our future home. We have been house hunting and lot scoping for a while now. But thank goodness, we have it pretty much narrowed down, and an offer may be going in sometime this week or next. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, I will keep on being a pinning fool until we officially get things rolling. The anxiety is getting the best of me. ;P
Home Decor Inspiration
One of the easiest ways for me to decorate a room is to choose the artwork first and then base everything else around that. It makes it so much easier for me when I have guidelines to work with. Otherwise I feel like I am just drowning in a sea of decisions and I absolutely hate making decisions. It's so bad that I have the Coin Flip app on my phone to help me make most of my decisions. Ridiculous.

Anyways, one of my favorite places to find affordable artwork is Minted. I love it because you can search based off color (I am obsessed with grey and gold). And also because once you find something you like, you can chose the size so it fits perfectly in your space. Then you have the option to either add a frame or just order the print and frame it yourself.

I found this gorgeous foil art the other day on their site and fell head over heels. It's just too perfect. We are planning on doing light grey walls throughout the house, dark dark dark hand scrapped hardwoods, and wainscoting/ trim galore. But sometimes that can leave a room looking sterile and cold so when I saw this print I knew it would warm up the neutral colors and straight lines. It is everything my "New Home Dreams" are made of.

On a side note, as I was scanning their site, I ran across their new wedding stationary. Good grief is it cute! It really makes me want to plan our wedding all over again. :D

A Texas Tradition

Every year my mom would dress us girls up and make us take some pictures in the bluebonnets. I didn't love it but it's one of those things you just have to do around here. Well a few days ago I had one of those "I have totally turned into my mother" moments when I drove past a gorgeous hill of bluebonnets and couldn't wait to get a free second to take B out to get some pics in them.

I had initially planned on just taking a few shots of Boston but lucky for us, a professional photographer pulled up about 10 minutes after we did, saw me snapping some pics of B, and asked if I wanted to be in a few. So nice of her!! And what a great set of pics I can look back on for years to come.

P.S. How great is B for the camera?? I swear as soon as I pull out a camera or a phone he really turns it on. (And yes I realize that probably won't last much longer ;P)
I am pretty sure he was contemplating which flower he was going to try and eat next…. It's hard work trying to get pictures and keep him from eating whatever is in reach.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Good food. Good drinks. And even better company. I think I say this every weekend but we had such a blast these last couple days. Saturday we took Boston to his grandma's so D and I could have a day date with some friends at a local brewery. The beer was great but the atmosphere was even better. Aside from the actual brewery tour, they had a big warehouse with a live band, oversized Jenga, dominos, and dogs to love on and adopt.

Out back they had picnic tables setup and a few games of corn hole.

The weather was perfect so we grabbed some food from the food truck and watched the guys play some games.

Sunday we woke up early and met my parents for some Texas BBQ. My mom saw Pecan Creek on the food channel and she had been dying to try the "Hot Mess" ever since. It is a sweet potato topped with brisket, cheese and other delicious things.

You have to show up early and grab a place in line because once they've sold out for the day, that's it. We got there around 10:30am (they open at 11am) and we were still maybe 20th in line. This meant we had to try and entertain this crazy guy for about 45 min. It wasn't easy because these days he really doesn't want to be held, and would rather get down and crawl, which was not ideal around there. Lucky for us we had reinforcements. ;P

We ordered "The Trough" which was around 5lbs of meat and man was it good. We ended up taking about half of it home though.

We also got mac n' cheese, fried okra, and the famed "Hot Mess". Next time I think I will just order the sweet potato. It was mine and my mom's favorite.

After lunch we drove around and showed my parents some of the houses and lots we had been looking at just to get a second opinion. Once Boston was over the car ride, we went home and played. I cannot wait for a new house so that we can get this guy a playroom. He has clearly taken over the house but I wouldn't have it any other way.
We hope y'all had a great weekend! Only a few more days until the next one! Wooohooo!
